What's the scariest thing you've ever prayed in your life?
A time where everything in you was afraid to speak the words and genuinely mean them, and accept whatever answer God might bring?
It's easy to pray, "God, bless my family; heal my body." It's not easy to pray, "Lord, break these things in me that you don't like, whatever it takes"; or, "Lord, use me; I surrender and won't stand in your way any longer." But in the end, aren't those the things that we will have really wanted most for our lives?
We gravitate toward predictability and comfort, fearful of both how God might answer our scary prayers and how we might answer God's call. In those times we must ask ourselves, "Is God faithful? Does He know what He's doing? Is God out to make my life miserable, or bring me a greater sense of joy, purpose and fulfillment than ever before?"
God is out to grow us, and push us to become the men and women we were each born to become. He is making us more like Jesus, which is far better than staying where we are.
Scary prayers don’t have to stay scary. They can be life changing for each of us, and for our whole community. Let’s pray.
