What We Believe Ministry Programs
Grace Community Church

The Stewardship ministry of Grace Community Covenant Church exists to enable, inform and equip all ages in developing a way of life in which we regard our possessions and ourselves as a trust from God to be used in His service, for what he has done for us in Jesus Christ.

Webster defined fear as something that causes fright or apprehension. Rev. Paul Matheson in his article “Hidden Treasure” (Matthew 25:14-30) shows how fear paralyzed the slave that resulted in a life so miserable and hopelessly diminished that in the end it was found to be worthless1. Dan Fowler in his article “God and the I.R.S” (Matthew 12: 15-22) wrote that something is not being translated to congregations about stewardship. Fear and uncertainty, focusing on our own needs over what God needs have hamstrung the effectiveness of the ministry of God.2

As a ministry of Grace Community Church entrusted with developing positive stewardship practices, we are careful not to use guilt in discussing stewardship, either directly or indirectly. Darren Pries-Klassen in his article “Why I Find It Hard to Be Generous” explains that for some people a tithe offering would be too difficult because of their present spending habits or because of lack of financial resources. For other people a 10% tithe is a drop in the bucket and doesn’t change their lifestyle one little bit.3

The church council has entrusted to the stewardship ministry in these areas of responsibility:

  1. Giving: To create an annual campaign whose goal is to provide the financial support for the church and its ministries with an appropriate emphasis on our reliance on God in faith for the provision of our needs.
  2. Knowledge: To encourage educational opportunities, which aim to instill biblical principles of financial stewardship. This means that everything God has given us: our time, our abilities, our possessions, and our money – our whole lives.
  3. Service: To encourage educational opportunities to help individuals discern their spiritual gifts; in the words of our vision statement; “we will encourage each person to discover and use his or her gifts for service to the church.”
  4. Communication: To communicate monthly the general fund giving
  5. Planning: To serve as an independent advisor to the Council during the budget process, bringing to light general financial challenges and specific financial concerns raised by budget proposals.

We will become the best possible managers of God’s resources by:

  1. Eliminating the Fear Factor through recognizing the barriers that inhibit faithful giving to God and taking steps (one at a time) to trust and obey God leading to financial freedom.
  2. Foster Consistent Giving through the fall Faith Promise pledge campaign that instills a commitment between each individual and God.
  3. Communicating the Current Status of the Giving to the General Fund monthly via the bulletin, quarterly through a bulletin insert and annually in the year-end report.
  4. Educating the congregation in the meaning of time, talent and treasures from a biblical perspective through the use of Scripture, Christian resources and personal testimonies.
  5. Promoting Fiscal Responsibility in the church budgeting and spending process by quarterly participating at council meetings and during the year end budget planning meeting.
